Tuzla Mosque

The Tuzla Mosque is located in the old part of Larnaca, behind the ruins of Ancient Kition and is one of the oldest mosques in the city, dating from the Byzantine years. The mosque was originally a Byzantine Orthodox church, as can be seen from the frescoes in the building. In the 12th or 13th century it was converted to the Catholic Church of the Holy Cross and later converted to a mosque after the Ottoman occupation of 1571. The minaret is built on the foundations of the original belfry.
